Slack releases dark theme mode to desktop

Slack has finally added a dark theme to desktop. It arrives months after the same feature appeared on the iOS and Android versions of Slack earlier this year. The feature is now available on all platforms.

On Thursday, the company announced that dark mode on desktop was immediately available across its apps on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

Slack is an American cloud-based set of proprietary team collaboration software tools and online services. It developed by Slack Technologies.

Slack is a collaboration hub where you and your team can work together to get things done. It brings team communication and collaboration into one place so you can get team work easily.

Slack has always offered a traditional light theme.

Dark modes reportedly lessen the strain on your eyes and your device battery. To enable this mode, just open Slack and navigate to Preferences from your user drop-down menu in the upper left-hand corner of the app. Under a standalone Themes menu, you just choose the display option to switch from Light to Dark.

If the Preferences menu doesn't appear on that section, you may need to update or relaunch your Slack desktop app to find the new dark mode options in the themes part of settings, as Slack suggested its users. Once you choose the Dark mode, the app itself will switch immediately that theme to show you a preview of it. You can also select a companion theme for your sidebar. It comes with different color palettes.

Dark mode of Slack can be enabled on all versions of the desktop app - Mac, Windows, and Linux.

George Zamfir, accessibility product manager at Slack, explains,

“Dark Mode is an important feature for lots of people. It’s helpful for working at night or in low-light, and we know many need it for accessibility reasons like visual impairments, migraines or other visual disorders.”

The company also said that the ability to sync with one’s operating system will be an available feature of the app coming soon.
